Tom Robinson lives on the outskirts of Maycomb with his wife and three children. He's very kind, helpful, earns a lot of respect by the people in Maycomb by what he does for everyone and attends church regularly with Calpurnia. He works on a cotton field for Link Deas. One day as he was working the Cotton gin, his left arm got stuck in the machine. It paralyzed his arm and made it twelve inches shorter then his right arm. Tom Robinson got accused of raping Mayella Ewell when he was doing a chore for her. The jury came up with the verdict of him being gulity for raping Mayella Ewell. Tom was then moved to a jail 70 miles outside of Maycomb. He tried to escape but a guard caught him and shot him 17 times which killed him. When Mr. Underwood heard about Tom's death he saw it as Tom was an innocent person who didn't deserve to be killed over something he didn't do just becasue of his race. Tom is also considered a mockingbird in the story. Tom was found gulity when it was pretty obvious that he wasn't and he attempted to get out of the jail to have freedom but was killed.
