Atticus is a single, hard working parent to two children, Jem and Scout Finch. Atticus isn't a 'normal' father in Maycomb. What makes him different from all of the other fathers in Maycomb is that he's a full time lawyer, he reads books, listens, teaches his kids how to read, doesn't drink and doesn't do masculine activities.'Normal' fathers in Maycomb don't really talk to their children, don't care about their education, drink and do masculine activities such as hunting. Atticus is a good role model to his kids and wants them to be as educated as they can be. Atticus isn't the type of lawyer that takes a case just for the money, white or black, he does everything he can. He is one of the few citizens in Maycomb committed to racial equality and thats why he takes the Tom Robinson case so serious even though he knows they are going to lose. During the trial the kids snuck in and sat up in the balcony with the colored people because they didn't want Atticus knowing they were going to the trial while all the whites sat on the main floor. Atticus finally noticed that the kids were going to the trial was alright with it.
